Mark Hoekstra Pecha Kucha Award

One year ago, Mark Hoekstra passed away unexpectedly. Mark was member Nieuwe Garde-lid, Bright-blogger and most famous for Geektechnique.org. Mark also brought Pecha Kucha tot Groningen, and was very close with the founders of Pecha Kucha. Yesterday, the lovely people of Pecha Kucha released this:

MARK HOEKSTRA PECHAKUCHA AWARD

Mark liked to ‘get his geek on’ and his blog GEEKtechnique.org showed the world how to get it’s collective geek on. Whether a iPod charger for his bicycle, a love-toy made from hacked Ikea products or his iNoPhone collection – Mark inspired many with his amazing creativity which he so generously shared. PechaKucha Night met Mark, as you would, expect online and shortly after PechaKucha Night Groningen was born with the first event held in October 2006. PechaKucha Nights were held all over the city in old churches, department stores – Mark and PechaKucha even made onto national TV. Sadly and very unexpectedly Mark passed away on the 20 September 2008. He was 34.

To celebrate Mark’s life and his passion for the GEEK in us all the PechaKucha Foundation and the PechaKucha Groningen team are launching the ‘Mark Hoekstra PechaKucha Award’ annual award today, one year after he passed away, to find the person with the most GEEK technique! This award seeks to celebrate projects, ideas that express ‘GEEK technique’ to make the world a better, simpler and funnier place. We will be looking for PechaKucha presentations that are pro-social, pro-environment and pro-city and embody Mark’s love for the geek. Videoreport: Pecha Kucha Nights XI in de Suikerfabriek

Last April 21st, the eleventh edition of Pecha Kucha Nights Groningen took place, in the abandoned Sugar Factory of Groningen. Regional station OOG TV sent a crew that reported the Pecha Kucha Night on OOG TV. Cameraman Kim Chae Young de Vink also made his own edit of the material he filmed.

PECHA KUCHA WOENSDAG 22 APRIL! DE LENTE IN MET 20 PLAATJES x 20 SECONDEN

Dit wil je niet missen: woensdagavond 22 april zal de elfde editie plaatsvinden van de Groninger Pecha Kucha. Niet in een bioscoop, niet in een gevangenis, maar… in de Suikerfabriek van Groningen! Zet ‘m meteen in je agenda, begin met sparen en kom langs*. Of beter nog: doe ruig, geef je op en presenteer!

Heb jij een onderwerp waar je graag met 20 plaatjes en 20 seconden passie per plaatje over praat? Geef je dan op als spreker. Aanmelden kan middels een e-mail naar gabriel@platformgras. Je ontvangt dan een officieel inschrijfformulier en verneemt de Pecha Kucha spelregels.

Pecha Kucha, letterlijk ‘geroezemoes’, is een uit Japan overgewaaid fenomeen waarbij mensen aan de hand van 20 ingestudeerde beelden 20 x 20 seconden mogen vertellen over elk gewenst onderwerp. De beelden draaien automatisch door, zodat iedere spreker gedwongen wordt om zijn verhaal in exact 6 minuten en 40 seconden te houden.

Het onderwerp is volledig vrij: je mag je vakantiefoto’s laten zien, maar ook de nieuwste plannen die je hebt bedacht. Enige eis is dat je zelf oprecht enthousiast bent over het onderwerp van je presentatie. Want suffe powerpoints, daar wordt de wereld echt niet beter van.

* LET OP! Dit is nieuw en nogal stom, maar we berekenen dit keer entreegeld. Dat is écht nodig om de PKN te organiseren, wees dus niet bang dat er iemand rijk wordt van je bijdrage. Mocht je overigens juist méér geld kwijt willen dan €5,00, dan houden we ons natuurlijk van harte aanbevolen.
